Hell’s carnival is rolling into town and this album will be the soundtrack for the rides from hell!  As the first band signed to Losing Your Head Records, Ivan and the Necrolytes bring a dark and disturbing look upon the world as we know it.  The bands first full length album: Some Place Dark, is a dark and morbid walk down the yellow brick road.  One that is sure shock you!

Some Place Dark begins with “Criswell’s Corpses” which sheds the light on the whole evil carnival feel to it.  The second song has to be the most violent and sickening song title I’ve encountered-“Brutally Morbid Pregnant Nun Massacre”-and I love it.  It blends all the darkness you can envision from a horror rock band and creates a delectable song of destruction. 

One of my favorite tracks on the album has to be “Crimson Veil” and with lyrics like:

“I’m gonna rip your throat

Snap your neck, expose the spine

Bite a chunk out of your

Tear-soaked face

As your eyes fix onto mine”    -how could it not be a classic horror rock song?

The haunted house portion of this carnival of evil takes place within the song “I Drink Blood”.  A very evil and melodic tune proudly declaring they drink blood(as the title of the song obviously states).  “Flesh Hungry” is a great song, but for some reason, I can’t help but think of an episode of Scooby Doo on the television while the song is playing.  “Twilight Time” is another great song and I could see the song being used somewhere in the “Halloween” series of movies.

The most unlikely gem on this album is their cover of the 1950’s song “Dream Lover” by Bobby Darin.  It’s probably the best cover of this song that I’ve heard (granted it may not be that many, but still…) It blows the Misfits cover that they did on their “Project 1950” album out of the water. 

Overall, I only have one complaint and that would be that the album is too short!  It’s a great album and I suggest picking it up!
